Illinois has lowered the bar for reading and math proficiency.
The state will lower the cut scores in its state assessments, beginning this year.
“Under the new cut scores, 53% of students would be considered proficient in English language arts, up from 41% last year; 38% would be proficient in math, up from 28% last year.”
This marks the 5th state to make such a change since 2020.
