One of the oldest business models: Construct walled garden. Charge for entrance. In the knowledge economy, what’s inside the walls = data. Think Bloomberg, Lexis-Nexis, Thomson-Reuters, etc. Even things like FlightAware for ADS-B data. PitchBook for Form D etc data. This is an even better model in the AI era. Find data. Build walled garden around it. Now instead of just charging for access to the garden, charge for the “output” of whatever the human paying that subscription fee was going to create. If you’re an entrepreneur: find an obscure data source, digitize / normalize / perfect it, and wrap it with an LLM.
