Roman Storm shouldn’t be prosecuted as a money transmitter. The only function his software and servers provided is broadcasting cryptographically signed user messages without any modification. These messages could have been printed on a t-shirt. They were copied and broadcast by many other internet infrastructure providers like att switches. It makes absolutely zero sense for copying data and broadcasting verbatim to be illegal. If the data is illegal, then the originator is who is at fault, not the network service providers that copy and forward it. Roman is also not a hero. The code he wrote enabled money laundering to fund nuclear programs. I can defend his right to have laws fairly and equally applied to him without endorsing its outcomes
