NYT says the pandemic was "largely ended by vaccines." Epidemiologically speaking, that is flatly false. It was ended the way any wave of respiratory virus is ended: through exposure, immunological upgrading, and eventual endemicity. When did that happen? I don't have the answer. Might have been before the vaccines were even available. The few seroprevalence studies show far more early spread than anyone admitted. Meanwhile, the shots did not stay ahead of the mutations, did not stop infection, did not stop the spread, did not contribute to public health. This is not in dispute. In addition, they caused vast harm to health. All the rest of this prattle is mere incantation, like the Aztec high priest assuring the people that the good crop yield is a result of the many heads that rolled down the pyramid in the season before. Anything to justify the carnage.
